Chapter 6

LAWSON WAS beyond tired. He stank of sweat, smoke, and charred wood. The weather had been very dry lately, and a family cooking out in their backyard had been careless. They’d actually built a fire in an old wheel, and sparks had gotten in the roof vents and started a fire in the attic. They’d gone to bed not knowing the flames were smoldering.

He pulled up in front of his house after four long shifts and sighed, thankful he had the next three days off. Lawson grabbed his gear and hauled it inside. His stomach growled as soon as he walked in the door and smelled garlic, oregano, and tomato aromas. For the last three nights, Dayne had had something ready for him to eat when he got home.

“You’re going to spoil me,” Lawson called as he dropped his bag on the rug in the hall. He was too damn tired to carry it any longer.

“I’m still working on the sauce,” Dayne said and then swore softly. Lawson had learned that when things didn’t go right in the kitchen, Dayne could swear fast enough and loud enough to make a sailor blush down to his toes. “I’ll have things ready for you in fifteen minutes.”

Lawson went into the kitchen, which looked like a spaghetti sauce bomb had gone off in it, and saw Dayne frantically cleaning up the spatter. He chuckled and kissed Dayne, his nervous flutters settling. “You’re too good to me.” He left the room and carried his gear downstairs. Then he started the washing machine and stripped out of his clothes, threw everything he could in to be cleaned, and padded up the stairs in his boxers.

Dayne wolf-whistled as Lawson passed the kitchen door. “Hot stuff.”

It was so good to see Dayne laugh and joke. That part of his personality had started coming out just a few days ago, and it was awesome. Lawson hurried on up the stairs and into the bathroom to wash the stink off him. He shucked his boxers and started the water. After a day like today, his muscles hurt. It had been one call after another, and his arms and shoulders ached.

The hot water was amazing, and Lawson stood under the spray, just letting it run over him. The tension he’d been carrying sluiced down the drain along with the water, and once he could move again, Lawson started soaping himself up. He closed his eyes and imagined Dayne in here with him. They hadn’t showered together yet, and it was an experience Lawson was looking forward to. Wet Dayne had to be something spectacular, and shower sex was awesome. Though Lawson would need to be careful with Dayne’s legs, he knew it would be hot.

“Lawson.” Dayne tapped on the door. “Dinner is nearly ready.”

Lawson was already gripping his cock and stopped his hand midstroke. This wasn’t a good idea. Not when he had the real object of his desire right outside the door. “I’ll be done in a few minutes.
